Radiology School

Attendance

Each school year begins on July 1 and ends approximately June 30. The program is a continuous 24 months of study leading to a certificate.

The hours are as follows:

  • First six months—Monday through Friday, regular daytime hours
  • Next 12 months—Monday through Friday, regular daytime hours; weekend and evenings each five to six weeks to obtain important clinical competencies of trauma radiography
  • Next six months—Monday through Friday, regular daytime hours.

All classes are held at The King’s Daughters’ Hospital. Clinical education is received in the facilities of The King’s Daughters’ Hospital, The King’s Daughters’ Medical Office Building and The King’s Daughter Hospital Hilltop Clinic.

Students are expected to attend all scheduled didactic and clinical classes. An absence from a class does not excuse a student from the responsibility for material presented or work assigned in that class.

An absence from the clinic or a didactic class which is not reported in advance and excused will result in probationary status for the student. A second occurrence will be deemed sufficient grounds for dismissal from the program.

Absences for any reason

An excused day must be scheduled in advance with the Program Director or Clinical Instructor within 24 hours of the requested day. Any less notice may be denied due to the rotation schedule.

Absences due to illness shall be excused, but the student will be responsible for any missed material assigned in class or rescheduling of their missed clinic days. The student is required to place a call to the Program Director or Clinical Instructor prior to the start of a class day making the school aware of their absence. If the absence will remove the student from the clinic, the call needs to be placed to the Program Director.

Medical leave of absence

Students in good standing may be granted medical leave of absence. Extended sick leaves may be granted to the maximum of six months if necessary. Before returning to full-time status, the student must present written authorization from his attending physician indicating that he or she can resume normal student duties. Any required makeup time must be done in order to be eligible for graduation from the program.

Vacation and personal days

Students receive one week off after each semester as well as one week off for the Christmas break. Vacation and personal days must be scheduled with the Program Director or Clinical Instructor at least 24 hours in advance of desired date. Vacation and personal days may not be used for the following rotations: 2-9 Rotation, Saturday Rotation or Sunday Rotation. These are limited rotations for students in which “off hour” competencies must be met. Request for time off from these rotations must be through the approval of the Program Director and Clinical Instructor.

Withdrawl

A student who is unable to continue in the program or to begin a new semester, will be allowed to withdraw, in writing, in good standing. In such a case, the student may apply for readmission within two years, provided that the readmission conforms to the accreditation standards of the program. Withdrawal in good standing does not guarantee readmission.
